The LG Thrill 4G, a glasses-free 3D Android smartphone for AT&T, has been delayed to August 21 instead of the original August 7 release, two Radio Shack reps confirmed to PCMag.
Only those who pre-order the device with a $50 gift card purchase will be able to pick up the phone in stores on this day according to both reps, who work at different locations.
The reps also re-iterated that the LG Thrill 4G will ship with 14-month-old Android 2.2, aka Froyo. But maybe, optimistically, the delay has something to do with AT&T's recent promise to upgrade all 2011 smartphones to Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread, this year?
On Friday, a tipster sent AndroidCentral an internal Radio Shack memo announcing the delay. As a result, pre-orders, which began in June, have been extended to Monday, August 15. In the memo Radio Shack instructed employees to notify those who have already preordered the phone of the pickup delay.
The LG Thrill 4G was announced at CTIA four months ago. It sports a dual-core 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch 3D display, and a 5-megapixel camera.
Mobile analyst Alex Colon said during his hands-on time with the LG Thrill 4G that the EVO 3D's resolution was "noticeably sharper" than the Thrill's.
